On September 18th 2019, COFM organized training sessions for pharmacists in which the latest advances in microbiota, probiotics and prebiotics were presented. The meeting, which had great experts in the field, aimed to train pharmacists on the clinical applications of probiotics in different pathologies, such as acute diarrhea and diarrhea associated with antibiotics.
The event was divided into two parts, in the first session the latest developments in the field of microbiota and probiotics with speakers such as Dr. Teresa Requena, Dr. Ascension Marcos and Dr. Guillermo Álvarez de Calatayud, pediatrician and president of the Spanish Society of Microbiota, Probiotics, and Prebiotics (SEMiPyP).
The second session consisted of presentations by the different laboratories. Each had 5 minutes of exposure and was moderated by Dr. Ascension Marcos.
Vitae had the opportunity to present the digestive product line and expose the main values and objectives of the laboratory, by Francisco Ballesteros, Vitae educator.
The stomach is the organ in charge of processing all the food we eat and that is why it is important to keep it in good condition. Lately, the increase in foods with a high fat content, the little time we have to eat, stress/anxiety… have caused an increase of digestive problems in the population. To avoid these situations, it is recommended to maintain a good balance of the microbiota. For this, the role of prebiotics / probiotics are essential. Prebiotics help the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut. Probiotics are living organisms that help populate the intestinal flora and improve the proper functioning of the intestine.
