Defences are an essential part of the body because they keep it protected against infections. So, we should understand what the immune system is and how it works.

The immune system (defences) is a combination of cells, tissues and organs that fight against germs (bacteria or viruses). The objective is to prevent infection and disease. For this reason, it is very important to maintain correct levels of white blood cells (leukocytes). They are responsible for fighting and eliminating these germs (antigens). Antigens are substances that the body does not recognize and there are several types: bacteria, viruses, toxins, chemicals or damaged cells. When the immune system detects some antigen in the body, it sends a signal to recognize the threat and eliminate it (immune response). This action consists of creating antibodies (proteins) to fight it. Once the antigen has been overcome, the immune system already has the appropriate response to this threat. So if it is threatened again by the same antigen, the immune system already has the antibodies to be able to fight it quickly and effectively.

Once the functioning of the immune system has been understood, it is worth remembering how we can keep it strong and healthy:

  • Carry out a healthy diet avoiding the intake of saturated fat
  • Avoid the consumption of alcohol and tobacco
  • Perform physical exercise in a regular way
  • Proper rest and sleep
  • Support your day-to-day with some natural food supplements that contribute to the correct functioning of the immune system

Otherwise, our body will feel tired throughout the day. This will cause a decrease in defences that will affect the digestive system, since it is the first line of defences.
